Reef 33 Review (2026): What It Smells Like, Longevity and Who It Suits

NITIK Verma10 min read

An honest look at Reef 33 for Indian buyers: what the saffron and oud scent smells like, how long it lasts, who it suits and which size is worth buying.

FragFreak review cover, Reef 33 by Reef Perfumes, a unisex saffron, rosemary and oud eau de parfum.

Reef 33 is the perfume many people bring back from Saudi Arabia or the UAE, and it is building a following in India too. Its note list tells you very little about how it smells, so here is what to expect before you spend on it.

Short answer: Reef 33 is a smooth, slightly sweet saffron, rosemary and oud eau de parfum from the Saudi house Reef Perfumes. The 100 ML bottle is ₹3,819 and the 200 ML bottle is ₹5,999. Expect around 6 to 8 hours on skin in Indian weather and much longer on clothes. It suits men and women, works best on evenings and cooler days, and is easiest to judge from the ₹499 8 ML decant first.

  • Simple notes, richer smell. Saffron, rosemary and agarwood on paper. Many wearers also get a fruity, almost pineapple-like sweetness and a light leather edge.
  • Performance is good, not endless. Community ratings put its longevity and projection above average, with some variation between batches.
  • Unisex, leaning masculine for most people who wear it.
  • Best from October to February and on evenings. On humid summer days, two sprays is plenty.
  • Start with the 8 ML. Most people love it, but a vocal minority find the saffron harsh, so a ₹499 test is worth it.

What does Reef 33 smell like?

  • House: Reef Perfumes, Saudi Arabia
  • Type: Eau de parfum, unisex
  • Launched: 2020, perfumer Kevin Mathys (per Fragrantica)
  • Listed notes: Indian saffron (top), rosemary (heart), agarwood or oud (base)
  • Main accords: Aromatic, spicy, oud, metallic and woody, with leather in the background
  • Community rating: 4.49 out of 5 from 518 votes on Fragrantica (October 2026)

On paper this is a three note perfume. On skin it is more interesting, and the most common advice in its reviews is: do not judge it by the notes.

The opening is saffron, but a smooth, slightly sweet saffron rather than the leathery, medicinal kind. Many wearers pick up something fruity, often described as pineapple or berries, though no fruit is listed. Some also notice a cool, faintly metallic edge in the first minutes, which is the metallic accord that Fragrantica and ScentVerdict both list.

The heart brings in rosemary, a green, aromatic lift. Some people barely notice it and others find it the loudest part, so this stage varies most from skin to skin.

The dry down is a clean, smooth oud, not the smoky, barnyard style that puts people off oud. Reviewers keep calling it easy and non-animalic, with hints of leather and woods underneath. It settles within the first hour and stays fairly linear after that.

Two practical notes. Several owners say a new bottle smells rougher and rounds out after a few weeks on the shelf, and a minority find the saffron synthetic no matter what. That split is why we suggest trying it before buying a big bottle.

How long does Reef 33 last in Indian heat and humidity?

Expect roughly 6 to 8 hours on skin in normal Indian conditions, with the strongest projection in the first two to three hours, and a lot longer on clothes. That sits in the middle of what the community reports. Parfumo users rate its longevity and sillage above average, ScentVerdict lists it at 6 to 10 hours with strong projection, and Fragrantica reviews run from 5 to 6 hours indoors to well past 10, with several owners smelling it on their clothes the next day.

Two honest caveats. First, batches seem to vary: some owners report weaker bottles, and ScentVerdict warns not to expect huge projection from every batch. Second, heat changes it. On a humid Mumbai or Chennai afternoon the sweetness can feel heavy, and a couple of reviewers say the base turns slightly animal-like in high temperatures. On those days two sprays on the neck and chest is enough, and one spray on clothing does more than extra sprays on skin. In a Delhi winter you can be more generous.

Who does Reef 33 suit, and when should you wear it?

It is sold as unisex, and most Fragrantica reviewers who voted call it unisex or unisex leaning masculine. A man can wear it without a second thought, and a woman who likes saffron, oud and darker scents will enjoy it too.

Wear it for evenings, dinners, dates, weddings and the festive season, and almost any day from October to February in North India. Fragrantica reviewers vote most often for autumn, winter and night. Many fans also use it as a signature scent.

Think twice for a quiet office or a packed metro in May. ScentVerdict notes its strength makes it less suited to the office, and in peak summer a lighter option like Blue Diamond Aqua will feel easier. If you dislike sweet scents or have found saffron harsh before, test it first.

What is Reef 33 often compared to?

Gissah Imperial Valley is the comparison you will see most. Fragrantica's "people who like this also like" list, Parfumo's similar scents and plenty of reviewers put the two in the same aromatic oud and leather direction. Most people who own both call Reef 33 the softer, smoother one, with Imperial Valley louder and longer lasting. Reef 33 also came out first, in 2020. At ₹3,819 against ₹11,089, Reef 33 is the place to start, and Imperial Valley is the step up if you want more volume.

Ahmed Al Maghribi Laathani often comes up in the same conversation. One UK retailer notes that its customers find it similar to both Imperial Valley and Reef 33, and Fragrantica reviewers group them too. Laathani is warmer and spicier, with cinnamon, cardamom and leather, better for winter nights than daytime.

A few wearers also notice a resemblance to Parfums de Marly Haltane in the way the saffron and oud feel clean rather than heavy. Treat that as a hint of the mood, not a match.

For cheaper options nearby, Lattafa Bade'e Al Oud Oud for Glory pairs saffron and oud in a darker way, Ibraheem Al Qurashi Blue Diamond Aqua shares saffron and rosemary with sea notes for daytime, and Reef 31 keeps the house's saffron opening but turns sweet and creamy with amber and vanilla. Note that Reef 33 White is a separate fragrance with berries in place of rosemary. This review covers the original Reef 33.

Is Reef 33 worth it, and which size should you buy?

At ₹3,819 for 100 ML it is good value: a well blended saffron oud that smells more expensive than it is, the most repeated point in its reviews. Here is how the sizes compare:

Size Price Per ML Best for
8 ML decant ₹499 about ₹62 Testing it for a week or two
20 ML decant ₹1,019 about ₹51 Travel, or one winter of occasional wear
30 ML decant ₹1,519 about ₹51 Regular wear without a big bottle
100 ML bottle ₹3,819 about ₹38 Most people, once they know they like it
200 ML bottle ₹5,999 about ₹30 A signature scent you wear several times a week

Start with the 8 ML. Most people who try Reef 33 like it, but those who dislike it, usually because of the saffron, really dislike it, and a decant tells you which side you are on for ₹499. If you like it, the 100 ML is the sensible buy. Go for the 200 ML only if it becomes your everyday scent: cheapest per ML, but a lot of one perfume. Our guide to decants versus full bottles explains the trade off.

Our verdict: who should buy Reef 33

  • Buy it if: you want a smooth, easy introduction to oud, with saffron and a touch of sweetness, for evenings and cooler months.
  • Buy it if: you like the Imperial Valley style but not its ₹11,089 price.
  • Skip it if: you dislike sweet scents, find saffron harsh, or need something quiet for a crowded office.
  • Best size: the 8 ML decant (₹499) first, then the 100 ML bottle (₹3,819).
  • Best time: October to February, evenings, weddings and festive nights.
  • Longevity: around 6 to 8 hours on skin in Indian weather, longer on clothes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of Reef 33 in India?

At FragFreak, Reef 33 EDP costs ₹3,819 for the 100 ML bottle and ₹5,999 for the 200 ML bottle. If you want to try it first, decants start at ₹499 for 8 ML, with 20 ML at ₹1,019 and 30 ML at ₹1,519.

Is Reef 33 perfume original?

Yes. Reef 33 is Reef Perfumes' own composition, launched by the Saudi house in 2020, a year before Gissah Imperial Valley, the scent it is most often compared with. The full bottles at FragFreak are authentic and sealed, and the smaller sizes are decanted from authentic bottles.

How long does Reef 33 last?

Around 6 to 8 hours on skin in Indian weather, with the strongest projection in the first two to three hours, and much longer on clothes. Performance can vary a little between batches and humid heat shortens it, so two sprays plus one on clothing works better than overspraying.

Is Reef 33 for men or women?

Both. Reef 33 is sold as unisex, and while most wearers feel it leans slightly masculine, its sweet saffron opening and smooth oud work well on women who like warm, darker fragrances.

Which perfumes are similar to Reef 33?

Gissah Imperial Valley is the scent it is most often compared with, louder and much pricier at ₹11,089. Ahmed Al Maghribi Laathani sits in the same family but is spicier, while Lattafa Bade'e Al Oud Oud for Glory and Ibraheem Al Qurashi Blue Diamond Aqua share its saffron with a darker or fresher twist.

Pick up Reef 33 as an 8 ML decant, or go straight to the 100 ML if saffron and oud are already your thing. For more in this style, read our guide to the best oud perfumes in India and best winter perfumes, or browse all unisex perfumes.
